When you need fraction-to-percentage in Indian contexts
A common Indian classroom example: in a school of 540 students, 405 are girls. The fraction is 405/540 = 3/4, which converts to 75%. Reservation policies in central government jobs are commonly quoted as fractions of vacancies — 15% SC, 7.5% ST, 27% OBC, 10% EWS — even though these fractions are messy in lowest terms.
The conversion is straightforward: divide the numerator by the denominator and multiply by 100. The fraction 3/8 becomes 0.375 × 100 = 37.5%. If the fraction does not divide cleanly, you get a recurring decimal — 1/3 → 0.3333... → 33.33% (or 33⅓% in fraction form). Indian competitive exams routinely expect you to handle both representations.
